EthicalCoach is Committed to Developing Sustainable Coaching Capacity in Ethiopia

EthicalCoach is Committed to Developing Sustainable Coaching Capacity in Ethiopia. Our goal is to help build local capacity, both in the NGOs themselves and in the local coaching community. NGO leaders in Ethiopia are remarkable in terms of what they have achieved to-date.

EthicalCoach is committed to supporting these leaders renew and refresh their commitment and mindset for the work ahead, strengthening their capability, networks, capacity and courage. This will be achieved both through the delivery of the coaching program as well as by making a wide range of resources available to them.

EthicalCoach is also supporting the ongoing development of local coaching capacity while fostering local understanding of the value of coaching.

Developing local sustainability will be achieved through a three-pronged approach that includes building a local coach network, developing local and international partnerships, and developing and maintaining a resource center for NGOs and coaches.

Building Local Coach Capacity

Our vision for the Ethiopia initiative is to build local coaching capacity by supporting the professional development of local coaches.

Thirty enthusiastic volunteers signed up for an intensive eight-module blended (individual and team) coach training series delivered by Professor David Clutterbuck of Coaching and Mentoring International (CMI) backed by a team of local and international volunteers, followed by a two-day intensive systems coach training delivered by Marita Fridjhon of CRR Global with coaching supervision provided by the Global Supervisors’ Network led by Eve Turner.

Accreditation opportunities were arranged through the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC) and in December 2018, 18 of these local coaches were accredited by the EMCC at the Foundational level or above. Ten were then selected to work with leading international coaches to deliver the Coaching Program.

A member of the first cohort of Ethiopian EthicalCoaches said of the training experience, “This work was not just a training, it gave me a community.” All 30 local coaches are continuing to meet as a community, receiving access to additional ongoing training and resources through the EthicalCoach Resource Center, as well as support from our Local Coach Network Support Team.

Local and International Partnerships

We are deeply grateful for our local and international partnerships who see the benefits and promise of the EthicalCoach vision and who have got behind our efforts with their support and resources.

As we continue to demonstrate the effectiveness of coaching in delivering results through our impact evaluation process and the development of case studies, our outreach and development efforts will continue to grow.

Support and endorsement by larger international NGOs and other funders will help create a deep-rooted and sustainable demand for coaching services.

Resource Center

The EthicalCoach team is continuing to develop and source a collection of specially curated resources (such as articles, videos, webinars, and workbooks) that are being made available to NGO leaders and coaches to support their ongoing learning journeys. These resources are complemented by opportunities to participate in facilitated webinars and coaching support sessions.
