From the 43 NGOs who attended the second day of the Summit, 20 were selected for coaching: 10 starting in January 2019 and the remainder in March 2020.
The coaching grant each received provides a year’s pro bono coaching from a team of at least one international and one local Ethiopian coach.
Supporting the coaches in delivering their best work in accordance with global best practice is a team of coach supervisors, which operates under the leadership of Eve Turner of the Global Supervisors’ Network and Marita Fridjhon, founder of CRR Global.
Through the power of individual and team coaching sessions, designed with rigor and thoughtfulness to build on current strengths and support the development and implementation of focused plans, the leadership teams develop more confidence and competence, individually and collectively, to address opportunities and key issues.
The coaching program itself is being assessed using an impact evaluation approach. The goal of the impact evaluation is to demonstrate the effectiveness of coaching as a leadership development technique that results in the delivery of higher levels of sustainable organization performance.
The NGOs shortlisted to receive coaching were selected from over 1,500 organizations that originally applied to attend the Ethiopian NGO Leadership Coaching Summit.
From these, a cohort of organizations was identified to receive coaching grants that enable selected NGO leaders and their teams to benefit directly from the power of coaching to develop skills, approaches, and new ways of thinking about the critical issues facing their organizations and the sector.
Coaching will allow these NGO leaders to grow their leadership while also empowering them to strengthen their organization as they strive to provide increased support and services to the community.

AISDA’s organizational mission is to help bring positive changes and overcome poverty through supporting programs such as health and nutrition, livestock and crop production, IGA and livelihood resilience, and water resource development.

CVT’s emphasis is on on high quality mental health care for survivors of torture and war trauma. This includes providing mental health counselling services, training local psychiatric professionals and mental health counsellors to provide effective psychiatric care to refugees, developing mental health resources for the community, and training staff at other agencies on mental health.
DEC aspires to see underprivileged children properly fostered, and facilitates child-centered comprehensive development interventions to create a safe and conducive environment to fulfill the best interests of children. DEC delivers developmental programs in early childhood care, skills and entrepreneurship, together with gender and life skills.
EngenderHealth seeks a gender-equal world where all people have full access to their sexual and reproductive health and rights. To that end, Engenderhealth implements high-quality, gender-equitable programs that advance sexual and reproductive health and rights, including education, counselling, maternal care, emergency obstetric care, and HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment.

IOCC partners closely with the Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter-church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC) to reach communities throughout the country. IOCC provides humanitarian and development assistance in emergency situations, for people with disabilities, to tackle the neglected disease of podoconiosis, as well as to prevent and foster awareness of HIV/AIDS.
One of the oldest indigenous humanitarian organizations in the country, JeCCDO envisages an Ethiopian society where all citizens promote the wellbeing of children. PADet is an indigenous, not-for-profit, non-governmental humanitarian organization founded by Ethiopian professional volunteers who committed themselves to making a difference in the lives of the poor, mainly children, adolescents and women. PADet focuses on child protection, women empowerment, sexual health and HIV/AIDS care, as well as food security.
The mission of Progynist is to make a positive difference in the lives of women and children by facilitating health, education, protection of the environment, feasible poverty alleviation strategies and the provision of a comprehensive support system to those vulnerable to famine, violence and HIV/AIDS.
SOS Children's Villages’ mission is to build families for children in need, help them shape their own futures and share in the development of their communities. Its work in Ethiopia began in 1974 and it currently provides alternative child care, family and community development, education and training, as well as health program units.
STEMpower has been implementing programs in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) in Ethiopia and nearby countries since 2009 in pursuit of creating a technologically-developed, economically-independent and self-sustaining Ethiopia. At the core of The Hunger Project’s work is empowering women as key change agents, mobilizing entire communities into self-reliant action and fostering effective partnerships to engage local government. The objective of the UEWCA is to advance socioeconomic empowerment, as well as to reduce cultural and traditional barriers for improvement in the living situations of women, girls and vulnerable children. UEWCA seeks to address issues in health, provision of resources, leadership and entrepreneurship, environmental and water protection, and trafficking.

Nobantu Mpotulo is an executive coach, process facilitator and an organizational development consultant with over 25 years of experience across public, private, higher education institutions and non-governmental sectors. Professor David Clutterbuck is a mentor, coach and entrepreneur, as well as one of Europe’s most prolific and well-known management writers and thinkers. He has written more than 70 books and hundreds of articles on cutting edge management themes. In addition, David is a serial entrepreneur, having built and sold two consulting businesses. He now works with an international network of mentor trainers and researchers, Coaching and Mentoring International, supporting organizations in developing capability in coaching and mentoring. Paul is a consultant, executive coach, facilitator, educator, writer and researcher. In 2004, Paul migrated to Australia with his wife and four children. He is now an executive coach, change facilitator and researcher. Amakelech is currently Vice President of the Ethiopian Pharmaceutical Association and an active member of the Association of Women in Boldness, a Female CEOs Breakfast Club. She served on the board of directors for the Addis Chamber of Commerce and Sectoral Association from 2016-2018 and is an active member of the Ethiopian Women Lawyers Association, which fights for justice for those women who can’t afford representation. Clive Steeper is a qualified coaching supervisor, executive coach and NLP practitioner with over 2,000 hours’ coaching experience. His approach is based on positive psychology and a belief that we are all capable of more than we believe is possible. Clive provides a supervision process whereby coaches can critically reflect on their values, beliefs and assumptions they hold about their themselves, their clients and the world around them, so that they can find new ways of adapting and integrating learning to become better coaches. Eve Turner was a senior leader in the BBC running a multi-million pound, 250-strong journalistic division and coaching internally before setting up her practice. Eve is an AC Master Executive Coach and one of the first 2 supervisors in Europe accredited by the EMCC. Judy is a Certified Organization, Relationship and Systems Coach through CRR Global, an Authorized Facilitator of the Team Diagnostic Assessment, and she works with the Leadership Circle 360 Profiler. She is a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach through the Coaches Training Institute, a Professional Certified Coach, through the International Coach Federation, and a current faculty member of CRR Global. She is also licensed to work with the Intercultural Readiness Check. Finally, in her last posting in India, Judy became Happiness Program teacher for Art of Living.
Kat is located in Ontario, Canada. A multi-award winning Certified Systems Coach and Organizational Development Specialist, Kat works with leaders of organizations to create aligned and high-performing teams. She is an expert in organizational planning and development with experience in multi-stakeholder facilitation, team building and relationship optimization. Trained as a Professional Certified Coach (PCC), Certified Systems Coach (ORSCC), Certified Co-Active Coach (CPCC), The Co-Active Leader® Program and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator (CDWF), Kat is a pioneer in the realm of professional coaching and one of the first coaches worldwide to earn the Certified Systems Coach designation. As Faculty for the Center for Right Relationship (CRRGlobal), California, since 2005, Kat has produced a global footprint supervising, teaching and mentoring professionals from around the world. Kat is an acknowledged Strengths Evangelist using the Gallup Organization’s Clifton Strengths-Finder and Q12 leadership assessments. As well, she is certified in The Leadership Circle/Culture Survey assessment tools to build positivity with her clients and create an intentional healthier culture within organizations. She brings over 25 years of experience working with individuals and organizations to improve effectiveness, enhance fulfillment, and create sustainable change and results. In 2000, Kathleen completed a professional coaching certification program with the Hudson Institute of Santa Barbara and subsequently earned her Master Certified Coach (MCC) credentials through the International Coach Federation. For 17 years, Kathleen served on the faculty of the Hudson Institute, as well as serving as a master coach assessor. In 2010, Kathleen and Jack Zenger co-authored the book The Extraordinary Coach: How the Best Leaders Help Others Grow (McGraw-Hill) and developed the award-winning Extraordinary Coach program, targeted at managers who want to improve their coaching effectiveness. A popular speaker, author, and facilitator, Kathleen coaches leaders at all levels to understand and improve their personal leadership effectiveness. She has also consulted with organizations and senior leader teams to create shifts in corporate culture and works to implement change with clients to improve employee engagement. Her current corporate clients include: Anthem, Fidelity, Heartland Dental Corporation, Integrative Enneagram, NASA-JPL, Phillips 66, Promega, Rocky Mountain Institute, Ross Dress for Less, Star One Credit Union and Valero. In 2014, Kathleen became a certified coaching supervisor before obtaining her Certificate in Applied Positive Psychology in 2015. Mish is a South African social entrepreneur and leadership coach. He has been coaching enterprising leaders and teams from the public and private sectors since 2007. Trading as Enterprisecoach, Mish has also partnered since 2012 with CRR Global to bring Organization and Relationship Systems Coach training to sub-Saharan Africa, training more than 500 people in the ORSC methodology and working with them to pioneer team coaching on the continent. Mish also supervises ORSC certification students. Mish also supervises ORSC certification students for CRR Global, serving students in Africa, Asia, Europe and North America. In more than 3,000 hours of coaching, Mish has worked with senior and top management – individually and increasingly in their teams. He has a passion for aligning business practice with the core values of its practitioners. Mish particularly loves to coach agents of change whose vision for business success includes empowering people and making a broad social and economic impact. In 1993 Mish co-founded and became first CEO of Praxis Computing, a start-up computer software and services business that grew under his leadership to be chosen as one of South Africa’s Top Twenty Non-Listed Companies in 2003. Praxis pioneered in embracing the diversity of the “rainbow nation” Mish is certified as a Professional Coach by the International Coach Federation (ICF). He is also a Certified Professional Co-Active Coach, an ICF-accredited qualification he obtained from CTI (thecoaches.com) in 2008. He completed advanced Certification in Organizational and Relationship Systems coaching (ORSC) in 2014.In 2004 he completed a three-year part-time Owner President Management Program at Harvard Business School. He holds a Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Zimbabwe (1983), a BSc in Physics (1980) and a BA in African History from the University of Cape Town (1979).
Nick has a substantial list of academic credentials, including a Diploma in Family Therapy (IFT). Nick worked with the Bath Consultancy Group from 1997 – 2014, during which he was MD and Company Director. He currently works as an independent coach based on the South Coast. Prior to his time at the Bath Consultancy Group, Nick held a senior leadership role in an educational organization dedicated to transforming the quality of the built environment. He also worked as a manager and management developer in the UK public sector/ Nick has been an executive coach for over 20 years. Having been accredited as an executive coach with APECS (UK), he coaches senior executives in a number of global organizations such as Unilever, Ernst and Young and Barclays Capital. He has also coached in the Public Sector, including senior civil servants in Whitehall as well as NGO leaders. Nick has worked with his colleague, Prof Peter Hawkins, to develop the first program for training executive coaches as supervisors, which first ran in the UK in 2003. He currently supervises both coaches and supervisors in their practice and is an accredited supervisor with the EMCC. Nick has also co-written a book with Prof Peter Hawkins, “Coaching, Mentoring and Organizational Consultancy: Supervision and Development” (McGraw-Hill/Open University Press, 2nd Ed 2013), which is now used as a core textbook in most university courses on coaching and supervision. He has also co-authored a chapter on Transformational Coaching, in the “Complete Handbook of Coaching”, Sage, London 3rd Ed 2018. He is currently writing a book on Transformational Coaching.
Sam is Owner-Director of Enhance Facilitation Limited and an Associate Fellow of the International Society for Coaching Psychology. He specializes in Leadership Coaching, Psychosocial Support and Professional Supervision. Regularly consulting to Médecins Sans Frontières (Netherlands), as well as coaching leaders and teams operating in high emotional impact environments, he is familiar with contexts where limited time and information, and high risk, are key features of decision making. Sam advocates that leadership is a team responsibility, where high performance is gained from developing quality relationships leading to productive and meaningful work. Identifying and working towards their values, he works alongside supervisees to engage clients who strive to balance the demands of organizational and interpersonal expectations and dynamics amidst constant change. Sam also facilitates Action Learning Groups for senior leaders, and presents articles and seminars on his practice areas. Integrating Acceptance and Commitment Training and other strength-based approaches, Sam sustains a structured approach to his work. He is also acknowledged for his non-judgmental and good-humored ability to challenge clients to draw upon their own, and others’, strengths to engage confidently with the diverse expectations, conflicts and successes of the work place. As a (New Zealand/Aotearoa) registered psychologist and informed by his ethical responsibilities, Sam’s coaching model is transparent, collaborative, confidential and safe for his clients from beginning to end.
