WILD (Women Innovators and Leadership Development Network) supports women leaders to scale the impact of their work, and to thrive. They organize the Women in Global Development Leadership Forum a movement to advance women’s leadership as well as equity, diversity and inclusion in the global development sector.

WILD and EthicalCoach believe that leadership coaching is a key component for enabling social innovators to achieve and to sustain their maximum social impact. We’re on a mission to put data behind that belief.

Thirty members of WILD have been selected for six months of pro-bono leadership coaching around their most pressing organizational, team and professional challenges. They will be matched with coaches drawn from EthicalCoach’s international network and both leaders and coaches who will participate in action research in parallel to the coaching.

EthicalCoach is building an evidence-based model for its coaching program. This means we are studying our approach and seeking data from our clients and coaches about the experience. We are analyzing the data we collect to demonstrate what’s working and the return on your investment of time and effort. The success measures we are studying look at the business and leader’s growth and development, and the client’s experience working with a coach.

Christopher Day

Integrative Change Practitioner and Coach

Taiwan

I support expats, leaders and field personnel in international development institutions, non-profit sector organizations and social change initiatives. My main focus is to build capacities to better address today’s global challenges and to support individuals and organizations to thrive in new, sustaining ways. Over the past 20 years I have worked in the private sector, with government organizations, with civil society actors and supranational institutions across three continents. My career included working in Uganda, New York, South Sudan and Afghanistan. Collaborating on continent-wide organizational change initiatives as well as with many stakeholders and change agents across cultures, I know first-hand what it feels like to live in volatile environments, to be responsible for people and to work with resources that don’t always stretch to meet the size of what’s required. My work, methodologies, attitudes and worldviews are shaped by these experiences: underpinned by the principles of equity, collaboration, acceptance and compassion, and informed by what it means to engage right at the edge where plans and decisions face the messiness of reality. I will support you with all my heart to explore the inner landscape of your unfolding, to identify new ways of orienting your work towards ever-increasing impact, and how you can give your life, relationships and organization new directions, vitality and purpose. Peter Arthur

Self employed

United Kingdom

My approach to coaching Coaching is a partnership in which the coach inspires clients, through a process of thought provoking and creative interventions, to reach their full potential. My approach to coaching is significantly influenced by my experience in the workplace over 37 years as a corporate lawyer in South Africa both as a partner in Africa’s largest law firm and as a General Counsel of a FTSE 100 company. Over these 37 years I have realised that there is a strong link between optimal performance in the world of work and emotional robustness. Accordingly, where appropriate, I work with clients to focus on their inner strengths and self awareness in relation to the goals which clients have established for their coaching sessions. Through my own experiences, I have a good understanding of the pressures that clients face when trying to balance meeting the needs of their own demanding clients with life outside the office as well as finding a successful route through complex relationships and less than optimal management of people. In addition as I have been both a provider and user of corporate legal services I feel I can offer valuable insights into what it is like to be on both sides of any professional relationship but more especially in the world of law. My core coaching principles In every coaching relationship I apply a number of core principles – • I act ethically according to what best serves the needs of the client; • I aim to be empathetic, supportive, totally non-judgmental and unconditional; • I endeavour to stretch clients to step outside their comfort zone – the “loving boot” in coaching speak; • I am open and honest and open to receiving feedback which is similarly open, honest and direct; • I listen carefully with an uncluttered mind and observe non-verbal cues; • I aim to create a safe and totally confidential space to enable clients to build trust and feel empowered to be their authentic selves. Coaching model I am an eclectic and intuitive coach. Whilst I believe the various coaching models provide a useful framework for my coaching, I do not follow them slavishly. My model is to be flexible and to allow the clients’ needs to guide each coaching session. I support clients to help them work out their own solutions with a view to reaching their full potential Academy of Executive Coaching (practitioner diploma) and ACE Journey to Mastery 2021

Judith Martin

Executive, Leadership & Team Coach | Thinking Partner

Germany

As Structure & Flow, I provide the trustful thinking partnership and open, reflective space for focused dialogue – a space to make sense of opportunities and dilemmas from different perspectives, to gain new insights and explore future possibilities. I support and challenge leaders, managers, teams and other professionals through coaching, training and facilitation as they try out new approaches and behaviors, questioning established structures, assumptions and ways of working. Maybe the task is reinvention or to shape a common purpose and set of values or to clarify a vision and direction moving forward. Or perhaps it’s to develop greater awareness through critical self-examination or the mindset and confidence to learn new skills. Other themes might include: driving change and shaping culture, building strong relationships and communication, working across cultures and diversity, developing and inspiring others, and building resourcefulness, resilience, self-care and personal effectiveness. My approach combines the structure of frameworks, processes, planning, boundaries and discipline, with the flow of improvisation, creativity, playful exploration, autonomy and fun. It is principle-led, holistic and adaptive. It involves seeing the systems and patterns in context and culture, integrating knowledge from various disciplines, and upholding high professional standards and ethical practice.

Harriet Nelson

Director

United Kingdom

I have always been interested in people – who they are, what they do and why they do it. I am naturally open and am especially curious about cultures different from my own. For me, coaching offers the best combination of my skills and interests in a way that is constructive and useful for others. I believe we all have potential, and that coaching is a key enabler to activate this, irrespective of our role or the context for our work. Coaching enables personal insight, learning, clarity and authenticity and is an opportunity to pause before consciously re-engaging to reach our desired goals. Outcomes can include a clearer way forward, increased self- awareness and learning, and clarity on deeper purpose. I am constantly learning and my current focus is understanding the interplay between the individual and the systems they come from. Separately, I am studying how to work more somatically to enable better awareness of the whole self and as a lifelong animal lover, I am interested in animal facilitated learning and how horses may be part of the coaching process.

Canada

I work with leaders to develop self-awareness, find new approaches to tackle issues and achieve goals with resource challenges. My approaches will help you create the action needed to produce your desired results. I have strong values around learning and growing and believing that people can reach their full potential. The art of coaching is threaded into all facets of my life. I’m a coach who uncovers the passions and strengths of individuals so that they can contribute in meaningful ways at work, and I’m a leadership coach who understands organizational systems, politics, team dynamics and employee engagement and use these as levers to create results in my clients. As a coach I use diverse life experiences and methods to help cultivate new ideas, explore and play with new opportunities, to create energy and focus to make changes. My coach is the best coach I can imagine ever having. She is extremely knowledgable, as well as kind and empathic. She cares deeply about providing support as well as helping me grow as a leader and a person. She has a lot of experience in leadership herself which helped me understand myself as a leader. She also taught me a great deal about how to help support my staff to grow in their strengths, and how to support them in their roles. She also encouraged me to believe in myself, and how I lead. I care deeply about my staff and want them to feel their best. She encouraged me to continue to support their self care as well as my own. She is the best coach ever!

I knew that coaching would be a beneficial experience but I really wasn't sure what to expect. I quickly learned that unlike mentorship, coaching requires you to develop solutions to your professional pain points. I thought to myself, "but how can I create solutions when I am in the thick of the challenge?". However, after working closely with my coach for the past 6 months, I have gained tools to seive through the issue/challenge and not only find low-hanging fruit solutions but also to rise to the occasion. It is so empowering to know that I have the tools and knowledge to create a way forward and I believe that this was my biggest take away from my coaching experience.

When I had initially applied for the program, I didn't know what to expect. I had never had a coach before. I was paired with a coach, who ended up being more than a coach. She truly changed my life! Her patience with me is what struck me initially. She guided me through the process, leading me to open up about some things that I have never shared with anyone but that had traumatized me enough to create my negative mindset. She worked with me, giving me the tools and exercises to help me understand the 'what? why? and how?'. I have absolutely benefitted from this program in ways I didn't think were possible. This is not only going to impact my professional career, but my personal life as well. Thank you so much, my coach! And thank you, EthicalCoach, for the opportunity! Truly transformative for me!

My coaching experience was transformational, and at a point in my life and career where I was ready for sweeping change and was uncertain if or how to navigate it. Coaching provided me the space to acknowledge what I wanted, what I didn't, and what my obstacles were to achieving my vision. I would highly recommend coaching during periods of anticipated change as it supports examining past/current behaviours that can be amended to create a path and produce the results one is after. Experiencing coaching has also made me more self-aware and mindful of how to support, communicate, and empathize with others in my personal, and professional life. Thank you EthicalCoach and the WILD Network for the opportunity to take charge of my own development, for tangible results that have changed my perspective of myself and how I show up in relationships.

As a development professional with expertise in MEL and research, I am very used to rely on evidence and facts (and technical excellent) as tools to make sense of my working world and to make decision in dealing with difficult situation. But as my career grows in leadership position, I started to realize that evidence/fact/technical expertise alone is not sufficient to help me understand real cause behind difficult situation and to deal with/make good decision in such situation. Coaching helps me better understand the "non-technical" factors behind a situation and provides me with tools to identify and deal with these better. It has helped me move one step closer to my goal of becoming an impactful and compassionate leader in my organization.

I highly recommend taking advantage of this opportunity for coaching. When I started out with my coach, I didn't know how much I would benefit from the opportunity to be introspective about my career, think about how I want to show up as a leader, and learn about how who I am as a person impacts the work that I do every day. I am so appreciative of my new perspective about work - how it is both a professional AND emotional experience, how I can leverage my strengths in the workplace, and how taking care of myself can benefit others that I work with.

This was my first coaching experience and I did not know what to expect. The coach informed me the sessions were about me and would be driven by content generated by me, this made me very apprehensive that some sessions would be filled with silence. Six months later, there was no moment of silence, in-fact each session went by so quickly. I have gained tremendously from these coaching sessions. The sessions provided me with the opportunity to gain insights about myself, on things that drive me and those that hold me back, recognize and appreciate successes achieved thus far. Resources shared by the coach, have introduced me to critical leadership skills and management techniques that will aid in not only my personal growth but in strategically moving the company forward. Thank you WILD for this opportunity.

I decided to pursue coaching to improve my public speaking. After six months, I can wholeheartedly say that I reached this goal and so many others! My pro-bono coaching experience allowed me the space to clarify my professional goals and to really explore both my professional passions. I feel more confident at work, and my colleagues have noticed! My coach was amazing – she was a cheerleader when she needed to be a cheerleader, but she didn’t shy away from calling me out when I was unwilling to take steps that would allow me to grow. Overall, coaching was one of the best things I could have done for my career! Thank you EthicalCoach and WILD Network! My coaching experience was incredible. I went into coaching with a very specific goal in mind, and I ended my coaching experience accomplishing that goal and gaining more confidence and clarity than I could have ever imagined. I know that I will continue to mobilize the tools and lessons learned through my coaching experience for years to come.
