Paul Lawrence PhD
Paul is a consultant, executive coach, facilitator, educator, writer, and researcher. His primary focus is on helping organizations bring about change, constructing holistic solutions, and integrating change efforts through interventions such as coaching and leadership development.
Paul had a lengthy corporate career, including 14 years with British Petroleum (BP), a global multinational company ranked as the fifth biggest in the world at the time. Throughout his tenure, he gained valuable experience in understanding how change unfolds and can be influenced. Paul held various roles in marketing, operations, finance, and strategy, leading teams in Australia, Spain, Portugal, and Japan. His journey culminated in the position of GM for a Tokyo-based retail business. During this period, BP more than doubled in size, navigating through a series of mergers, acquisitions, and investments.
In 2002, Paul transitioned from line roles to a global position in organizational development at BP's head office in London. In this capacity, he spearheaded the design and implementation of a global leadership development program, collaborating with business leaders worldwide to co-facilitate a program for over 12,000 people.
In 2004, Paul relocated to Australia with his family. He has since become an executive coach, change facilitator, and researcher. He coaches individuals, teams, and groups within a broader strategic agenda. The value proposition of his company, the Centre for Coaching in Organizations, is grounded in thought leadership and evidence-based practice. Paul publishes white papers on coaching, leadership development, and change, making them freely available. He has been conducting and publishing research in the coaching, leadership, and change space since 2008. Additionally, he lectures part-time at the Sydney Business School (University of Wollongong).
